Standard description:
15 Moisture resistance
15.1 The enclosure of the appliance shall provide the degree of
protection against moisture in accordance with the classification
of the appliance.
Compliance is checked as specified in 15.1.1 taking into account
15.1.2, the appliance not being connected to the supply mains.
The appliance shall then withstand the electric strength test of
16.3 and inspection shall show that there is no trace of water on
insulation which could result in a reduction of clearances and
creepage distances below the values specified in clause 29.
NOTE The external enclosure is carefully wiped to remove any
surplus water before inspection. Care has to be taken when
dismantling to avoid displacing any water within the appliance. Ingress Protection Test Equipment
15.1.1 Appliances other than those classified IPX0 are subjected to the
tests of IEC 60529 as follows:
– IPX1 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.1;
– IPX2 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.2;
– IPX3 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.3a;
− IPX4 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.4a;
– IPX5 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.5;
– IPX6 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.6;
– IPX7 appliances as described in subclause 14.2.7. For this test
the appliance is immersed in water containing approximately 1 %
NaCl.
NOTE The hand-held spray nozzle may be used for testing appliances
that cannot be placed under the oscillating tube specified in IEC
60529.
Water valves containing live parts and that are incorporated in
external hoses for connection of an appliance to the water mains
are subjected to the test specified for IPX7 appliances. Ingress Protection Test Equipment
Standard:IEC60529 degree of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code) of the IPX3 and IPX4, IEC60884-1, IEC60335-1, IEC60598-1.
Application:It is used for the testing of IPX3 and IPX4.
Test sample:The test apparatus with water proof functions, such as electronic appliances, lamps, electrical cabinets, electrical components,car, motorcycle, electrical products (such as automotive instrument, all kinds of switches, micro motors, etc.)
Feature:The difference between IPX3 and IPX4 is that the baffle should be removed in the IPX4 test. To make the shell in every possible direction is splashing, this device can be used with a rotating table of the sample.
